From September 24 to 25, 2025, BlueSAO successfully held the 2025 BlueSAO Small Animal Orthopedic Training (Hindlimb Deformity Correction and Trochlear Groove Replacement Class) at the Management and Science University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This training course was organized by the BlueSAO Malaysia-Singapore team, featuring a distinguished international veterinary orthopedic lecturer from China, Dr. Zhou Luoping, as the keynote speaker, who provided a systematic and in-depth explanation of cutting-edge techniques and clinical applications regarding skeletal deformities and trochlear groove replacement. The course content was rich, covering theoretical analysis, hands-on demonstrations, and case discussions, offering a valuable learning and communication platform for attending veterinarians in Malaysia. Additionally, Dr. Chen Weili from China, as well as Dr. Kiew and Dr. Lee from Malaysia, served as teaching assistants, assisting attendees throughout the hands-on training and providing answers to questions, further enhancing the interactivity and effectiveness of the course. Family portrait of this course
Day One
The first day's course was primarily centered on systematic theoretical teaching, progressing step by step. At the beginning of the course, the basic concepts of skeletal spatial positioning were clarified, and common deformity classifications and the core principles of surgical treatment were reviewed, laying a solid theoretical foundation for the subsequent content. Following this, the course focused on common types of femoral deformities and treatment plans, including distal femoral varus/valgus, malunion with excessive anterior bowing, and excessive torsion. In the third part, the content extended to common types of tibial deformities and corresponding treatment strategies. In addition to topics related to patellar dislocation, the course also emphasized various corrective approaches for anterior cruciate ligament injuries accompanied by deformities, closely integrating clinical practice and broadening participants' diagnostic and treatment perspectives.
Dr. Zhou Luoping was fully immersed in interactive teaching throughout the course. He not only addressed students' questions on the podium but also provided in-depth one-on-one guidance after class, sharing all his knowledge and analyzing specific cases. This immersive teaching method greatly enhanced the learning experience of the doctors.
The highlight of the theoretical course focused on the proprietary compression-fit biological PGR system developed by Bailu, analyzing layer by layer from its design principles to specific clinical applications, demonstrating how technological innovation can provide new solutions to clinical challenges. After solidifying the theoretical foundation, the course also included a hands-on preoperative planning session, allowing participating doctors to practice firsthand, familiarize themselves with the procedures in advance, and be fully prepared in knowledge and skills for the practical surgery course the following day.
Day Two
The second day of training focused entirely on hands-on practice, with a core emphasis on femoral distal osteotomy, proximal tibial osteotomy, and trochlear groove replacement, aiming to comprehensively treat severe medial patellar luxation. The course systematically reviewed the surgical principles, procedure planning, and workflow for each technique. Additionally, the course included specialized exercises on the efficient 'Two-Incision' TPLO technique, further enhancing the practical skills of the participating doctors.
