Breed: Old English Sheepdog, Weight: 26.4kg, Age: 4 years old, Sex: Male

Wediagnosedthis four-year-old Old English Sheepdog with hip dysplasia at a young age. The owner chose to treat the dog conservatively, resulting in the hip joint worsening each year. Recently the hip joint had gotten worse and the hind limbs developed tremors and lameness due to the pain after standing. Examination revealed that severe arthritis had developed in the hip joint. Hip dysplasia in medium to large dogs should be diagnosed and treated as early as possible. We can diagnose early hip dysplasia as early as three or four months of age with a professional examination. Most dogs will be able to keep their hip joints for the rest of their lives if they are treated according to the grade of hip dysplasia. Do not delay treatment until the hip disease is severe! There are several reasons for this: 1, the more severe the arthritis, the greater the difficulty of hip replacement and the increased probability of complications; 2, the affected limb has to suffer the pain of arthritis for many years in silence; 3, as the animal ages, its recovery ability then becomes worse; 4, hip dysplasia, gait changes, weight-bearing changes lead to forelimb joint disease, spinal disease; 5, counting the cost of painkillers, joint protection drugs and other health care drugs used in conservative treatment is not less than the cost of hip replacement. Hip replacement is not the last straw for hip dysplasia.

The preoperative x-rays showed a very shallow acetabulum with osteosclerosis and massive hyperplasia in this Old EnglishSheepdogSuch an acetabulum is called a dish-shaped hip. The preoperative x-rays also showed that the femoral head was deformed and there was a lot of hyperplasia around the femoral head and femoral neck. It is very challenging to replace such a hip. We chose to use the BlueSAO’s hip replacement system to perform a total hip replacement. Why did you choose the BlueSAO’s hip replacement system? There are 3 reasons: 1. BlueSAO hip replacement system has a wide range of tools and implants, from mini size dogs and cats to large dogs; 2. BlueSAO hip replacement system has been upgraded with several generations of tools and implants from the initial version to now, and it has been continuously improved, and now it is very suitable for conventional dog and cat hip replacement as well as difficult hip replacement. 3, BlueSAO's hip replacement system allows surgeons to perform the surgery more easily, more precisely and more smoothly.

After calibration according to the Marker on the iBlueVet Orthopaedic Planning System, select the appropriate femoral stem prosthesis and acetabular cup prosthesis. The preoperative planning decision was made to use a #7 biologicalfemoral stem, a 20mm lateral bolt, a 26mm biological cup, and 16mm+0, 16mm+3, and 16mm+6 femoral head prostheses. The final femoral head prosthesis is determined after the test using the trial femoral head prosthesis during the surgery.

Planned implants: a #7 biologicalfemoral stem, a 22mm lateral bolt, a 26mm biological cup, and 16mm+0, 16mm+3, and 16mm+6 femoral head prostheses.
